Finding NeverlandFinding Neverland is a semi-biographical film focusing on the Scottish playwright, J.M. Barrie and his inspiration for his famous play, Peter Pan. The film depicts his platonic relationship with the widowed Sylvia Llewellyn Davies and his close friendship with her young sons, George, Jack, Peter and Michael, who become the real life children behind his characters in Peter Pan.
The film begins as Barrie receives disappointing reception for his play, Little Mary, and he meets the boys in the park as he goes to clear his mind. He proves to be a great playmate for the children and becomes a bigger part of their lives than he even was in his own. Sylvia's mother and Barrie's wife, who eventually divorces him, do not approve of this relationship and questions the amount of time he spends with the Davies' family. Barrie is still a young boy at heart and takes the antics and adventures he has with the boys to write his famous play, Peter Pan. Although his producer was skeptical of his idea, the play was received greatly as Barrie had invited along orphans. The excitement of these young children was infectious and soon the rest of the audience was enjoying the play just as much. Sylvia becomes very ill by this time and while the boys and "Uncle Jim' bring the play to her, she ends up walking alone into Neverland, which is used to symbolise death. The film ends with everyone attending her funeral and the audience is greeted with the knowledge that Sylvia left the care of her boys in both James and her mothers hands.
